Last week I kicked off work on CONTENDER with a trip to Lund in Sweden for the 2016 World Aquatic Development Conference. As you can see, I was excited to learn that I had been upgraded from a British artist of questionable fitness to an American competitive swimmer...
FINA scandals, IOC debacles, doping, burnout (in elite coaches as well as athletes) and innovative training approaches were all subjects on the agenda. Speakers and attendees included Professor John Hoberman from the University of Texas, journalist Craig Lord, sports psychologist Professor Joan Duda and former Australian swimmer Shane Gould (she won a mere three Olympic golds at 17).
I also finally met super coach Milton Nelms face to face, whose work with athletes I am observing in Tasmania in a few weeks.
